The American Association for Cancer Education established this Memorial Lecture Award in 1951 to honor Samuel C. Harvey, MD, PhB, FACS, 1886-1953.
About Dr. Harvey, Ajit Sachdeva wrote:
“Dr. Harvey was a consummate surgeon, scholar, educator, role model, historian, and philosopher. He was Chair of the Department of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine for 23 years; President of the American Surgical Association and the first Chairman of the Coordinators of Cancer Teaching. He introduced active learner-centered education, aka the ‘Yale System,’ and he was known by everyone to enjoy a cigar or pipe, a book, and a desire to stay longer in bed!’ |
Each AACE President chooses a leader in cancer education to present this prestigious lecture at the AACE Annual Meeting. Each recipient receives a medal and $3000.
